- Nickel & Iron Meteorite (Octohedrite)
- Composition: Nickel, Iron
- Gibeon was found in Namibia (South Africa) in 1836, by the English army captain and explorer Sir James E. Alexander,
but was known by the native people well before 1836.The natives had used the meteorites for making tools and weapons.
- Gibeons are Classified as a fine Octahedrite ( IVA ) Iron
Meteorite. When Polished and etched it shows fine examples of the Widmanstatten Pattern.
- South Africa has now banned export of this meteorite. So once the supplies that are currently availalbe for sale are gone,
there will be no more coming out.
